Bathing female after giving birth?

I read on Ask a vet, that the bedding should be clean since mama does the rest. My malte poo had three pups two days ago, and she had some after bleeding. Is it safe to say, I can go ahead and change the top cover, or will it disturb the nursing procedure? Also, when is it safe to bath mama, since her backside really needs cleaning.
